Music Studio

Below are some videos to help remind you about some of the important fundamental things relating to playing of your instrument following on from lessons. These are always important to check regularly to help make sure your playing is developing well, whether it is the violin or the piano!

Vibrato - Violin

Watch this video with your violin and try the exercises to help develop your vibrato. Remember it can take time and so you you need to be patient. To develop vibrato we will talk about this more in lessons, but it is important to dedicate a little if time in your daily practice to developing this skill once you reach an appropriate level, and then gradually incorporating it in to your playing when you feel more confident. The video is quite long but it is worth watching all of it at least once to learn more about this technique. In subsequent views you can just watch the exercises and follow them on a regular basis.

Bow hold - Violin

This is a really good video to remind you how to hold the bow - it is worth checking regularly as we can often change it without realising!

How to hold the Violin

Another good video to remind you about what you have learnt in lessons about how to hold your violin - and the importance of posture and avoiding tension when playing the violin

Piano posture

How you sit at the piano is more important than you think - your back and arms all need to be at the correct angle. Too many people sit too close to the piano where the body can get in the way of playing. Supporting what you have learnt in lessons, or if you need some reminders, watch this video or we can discuss it in lessons again.

Piano - Hand Posture for beginners

Just a little reminder particularly for those starting out on the piano of the importance of hand posture.

Piano - Arpeggio Tutorial

A little video to help those who find arpeggios still tricky. Again reinforcing what you learn in lessons this is just to help remind you how to move your hands when playing arpeggios.
